Improve the Visibility of Your Business with Google

In the world of marketing, lessons can be found in the most unexpected places. My experience working at Bazaruto Seafoods in Centurion taught me a powerful marketing lesson that allowed me to reach thousands of people with just one photo. Here's how it happened, and how you can do it for your business too - completely free!

A Weekend Job with Unexpected Insights

I used to work at Bazaruto Seafoods on Saturdays while I was at university. It was a simple cashier job, but it provided good pocket money. Little did I know, this weekend job would teach me valuable marketing insights.

One afternoon, after leaving the shop, I received a notification from Google asking me to answer questions about Bazaruto. I had signed up to be a contributor and would get these notifications after visiting new places.

Interestingly, I noticed there were no clear photos of the shop front on Google.

A Simple Act with a Big Impact

The next time I went to work, I decided to take a photo of the shop front and upload it. Selfishly, I wanted points for contributing (a great example of gamification), but I also thought this would surely help future customers looking for Bazaruto Seafoods.

A few weeks later, I got a notification congratulating me on the performance of my photo. The photo had been viewed by thousands of people, and I was blown away!

After becoming aware of this, I continued contributing and sharing photos of the businesses I visited. I have been contributing for over 5 years now, having uploaded 60 photos which have received 772,712 views.

How to Get Your Business Viewed on Google

This experience taught me the power of simple actions in marketing. Here's how you can get your business viewed on Google:

  1. Search "Google My Business" or click this link

  2. Create a profile for your business and add all relevant information

  3. Post clear photos of your business (inside, outside, products, menu, etc.)

  4. Regularly post new photos and invite your customers to do the same

A No-Brainer for Businesses with Physical Locations

Having your business on Google and Google Maps is essential in today's digital age. It enhances your visibility, making it easier for potential customers to find you. It also allows you to control the narrative around your brand, showcasing what makes your business unique. From the perspective of customer experience and advertising, this is a no-brainer. I highly recommend all businesses with a physical location do this. It's a simple yet powerful way to enhance your visibility and connect with potential customers.
